About Zodiac Series

Artist Description:
The world of astrology and zodiac signs have always been something I have heavily been drawn towards. The 12 unique signs and their differing traits, symbolisms, connections, and influences have raised my interest for many years. Through this, I have had the desire to learn all about the astrological world, so naturally I have wanted to create art pieces inspired by them.
I had the opportunity to create a series when I was younger but with a smaller skill set, less experience, and with a limited scope the expectations did to execute exactly what I wanted to portray, so I have been dying to revisit this themes again.
Each piece is a complete mash up of different mediums. Gouache is used as a base layer, then coloured pencils and ink are used on top of that to bring them all to life. A bit of the digital world is then brought in to create the backgrounds and bring textures that connect to the individual signs’ elements, colours, and attitudes.
The zodiac is found across many cultures and depicted in various ways. Each sign has an abundance of connections to natural, planetary, and spiritual elements. With that in mind, I didn’t want to create ‘predictable’ representations of them that concentrated on the commonly recognised characteristics. They instead, focus on the personalities, flowers, colours, and symbols to create my interpreted ‘feeling’ of the zodiacs.
The drawings are the female embodiments of each astrological sign. The feminine has always inspired me and I find myself channelling that energy when I draw. I can’t help but create female incarnations of life experiences or connections and highlight the feminine spirit and influences. Humanising each of the zodiacs gives them a richer representation and identity, as well as creates a deeper story.
